1st Chronicles 16 Partying in the streets for days!

Image
Good Saturday morning! My darling bride is already up, hours before her normal time. She is a volunteer working and attending a women’s conference at our church’s main campus in Granbury today. She worked last night too and didn’t get home until late. It was such a Joy to see her all revved up and excited from the evening. We stayed up very late (for me anyway LOL) as she told me all about the evening. She is about to start drinking her first of many coffees, I am sure! I will be starting a big wiring project on my antique truck this morning. The fuse block had an issue in the fall, and I will be splicing in a new one. Well, let’s get to the good stuff in chapter 16 of 1st Chronicles.   We have read of many wars over the past few months, and now we read of a war starting last night in present-day Iran, but it was called Persia when this book was written. But today’s chapter is all about the celebration of setting up the Ark in the city of David/Jerusalem. It was a grand cele...

11st Chronicles 15 When a wife despises her man for worshiping God!

Image
Good Friday morning to all of you near and far! I am not quite sure how this week has gone already, it was very fast from our accounts! There doesn’t seem to be enough coffee in all the world to wake me up this morning. I have two items on my agenda today: an oil change for Madeline’s truck (she named Bella), and drilling a 6’ hole in asphalt with a coring bit to install a visitor sign to finish out a job. Although I might have to push the hole drilling to Monday, as Madeline wants to go do something together today. My little cat is curled up in my lap under my keyboard as I am writing to you; she seems content to listen to the keys clacking away just above her. With the hounds also at my feet, this must be quite a scene for us animal lovers.   Well, there was a whole paragraph you can never get back, sorry for rambling! Let’s get to Today’s Daily Bible Challenge in chapter 15 of 1st Chronicles. David prepares the tabernacle for the Ark to move into. They do it right this ti...

1st Chronicles 13 & 14

Image
Well, that scale is off a bit on the size of the Ark...   Good Thursday morning, we have a full day planned, but heading in different directions. My darling bride will be going to H.E.B. for our groceries, and I will be doing some Help Ministry things with a client, before headingout for a small plumbing job. I like having busy days, and I have several ahead! This early spring weather sure makes it nice too! I hope you have great plans ahead!   Well, there I go again rambling and even made it to the weather…LOL. Let’s get to our two short chapters of 1st Chronicles for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge. You will be happy to know that there are very few names listed in chapters 13 &14; it is more of a narrative of some events, including someone getting struck down by God and King David becoming very angry with God over it! There is also a family that is ...

1st Chronicles 12

Image
Good mornin folks, As is obvious at this point, I am running a bit late this morning! I stayed up too late and had a busy day yesterday, and just couldn’t get moving this morning! We did manage to stop in and vote yesterday! We also delivered Eyore to her new owner. I will keep this short to get to our longer chapter for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge, we are in 1st Chronicles 12, about an eight-minute read. We are listening to how most of the men of war aligned with David just before he became King. This chapter is more than a list of names, but there are a lot of numbers. As always, we welcome your questions/comments via PM/DM, and we look forward to hearing from you! Talk with you soon! https://www.blueletterbible.org/audio_video/popPlayer.cfm?type=nasb_n&b=13&c=12

1st Chronicles 10 and 11 The rise of King David!

Image
Hello, we are tackling two chapters this morning for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge! 1st Chronicles Chapter 10 is only two minutes long, but it introduces a different writing style with a great deal more content than just a list of names! Chapter 11 has a great deal of content, but ends with a list of names again. But in these, we will read of King Saul's and his sons' death in battle and King David’s accession to the throne. We will also learn a lot about how King David picked his leaders. I promise these are a lot easier and more interesting reading than the previous chapters! We welcome your questions and comments via PM/DM and look forward to hearing from you! Click the link below to listen for yourself! Talk with you soon! https://www.blueletterbible.org/audio_video/popPlayer.cfm?type=nasb_n&b=13&c=10

1st Chronicles 9 Goodbye to Eyore

Image
Good Monday to each of you near and far! My darling bride and I have a drive into the big city for bloodwork this morning. We always follow these trips with breakfast at the Cracker Barrel in Weatherford, TX. It has become a silly tradition for us, as neither of us likes being stuck, especially after fasting for the tests! We are getting used to it now, as this is a regular thing when you have Hashimoto's disease. We hope to vote on the way back, and then I have to do some work on the old Eyore before delivering her to her new owner later today. Goodbye Eyore, we will miss you!  But Eyore two is still going strong, and without all the computers and sensors, she may just run for the rest of my life! Well, I am rambling again, so let’s stop all this jabber-jawing and get to Today’s Daily Bible Challenge in 1st Chronicles 9.   There is a little more meat in today’s chapter, but alas, it is still mostly genealogy. With some interesting char...

1st Chronicles 8

Image
As I watch the familiar warm red glow start to rise over the eastern horizon, I have been pondering how the God who created all this actually knows us by name and even knows the number of the hairs on our head! He left us this book, which tells us all about Him, for us to learn, yet so many of us who profess His name won’t even open the pages! Well, technically, this is 66 books, and He had some forty authors write it while He inspired their words. We call it a book, but if you haven’t even opened it, you won’t learn that it is 66 books!    So if you are new here, you have stumbled upon The Daily Bible Challenge, where we read/listen to the whole Bible one or two chapters at a time. But here is the problem, you have started in two of the most difficult books, 1st & 2nd Chronicles. I won’t pull any punches; there is a lot of genealogy here, and it can get pretty dry! But if it were easy, we wouldn’t have named this Blog a Challenge! We are about a quarter of t...

1st Chronicles 7 Something is different about today's chapter!

Image
Good Saturday morning! I stayed up late binge-watching a video series on YouTube with Madeline last night. We love watching these couples who buy a ruin in Italy and rebuild it themselves to live in. I am not sure why we like these so much, but one of my reasons is the architecture itself. I love old stone buildings! I am looking forward to starting the stonework on our home in the spring, unless my hernia surgery delays it. Today I hope to prune the fruit trees and the crepe myrtles before it is too late. It turned cold on us again, but it is forecast to be in the low sixties this afternoon, so I will try to get it knocked out then. Well enough about that, let’s get to why we are here!   We are in 1st Chronicles 7 for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge. It would seem there is a different author for this chapter, as there is more content, and the mention of men of war for each head of household. See if you think it is that or some other reason for the change by clicking the link ...

1st Chronicles 6 Everyone had pastureland!

Image
Good Friday morning! I am hoping to take my darling bride to a little coffee shop in a town that is about 35 miles away this morning. She had a tough class last night, so maybe we will do that tomorrow if she needs to sleep late this morning. Sometimes we just like to get away for a short road trip to try new things. I finished stripping any and all parts I might need from my parts truck yesterday, so hopefully the roller shell will sell soon! We have been having such great weather, I am getting tempted to finish the interior on Eeyore, my 43-year-old truck. I still can’t believe I have been driving a 43-year-old truck as a daily driver for over a year now without incident! I guess my initial mechanical rebuild was done well! What a blessing it has been to know that no modern inferior sensor will fail and leave me stranded! Well, there I go again, rambling like the old man I am becoming!   Let’s get to Today’s Daily Bible Challenge, and it is named well this morning. T...

1st Cronicles 5 I promise chapter 5 is more than just names!

Image
Good morning. My darling bride is home safe and resting well after her journey, granddog sitting in H-town. I made a simple dinner for us, and we had it out on the deck as the sun started to set. Then a movie and early turn in for me, I am sure she stayed up late, but I was out like a light! Today, we have some projects, including returning all the clean linens to the crisis shelter at the church. I washed all of it while she was gone, but now we will put the place back together as a team. We like to get it totally ready for the next clients, so we are not caught off guard in the middle of the night. Hey, sorry, rambling again, let’s get to The Daily Bible Challenge in 1st Chronicles 5.   A couple of points of interest here: Israel was the new name given to Jacob, which can confuse readers when these names appear, as it sounds like a place rather than a person. Also, see how big a curse it is to defile your father's bed as Reuben did, even losing his birthright! Click...

1st Chronicles 4

Image
Good morning from The Little Hundred Acre Wood. My darling bride may return home today or tomorrow, depending on how she slept last night. I have tried to get ahead on all the chores so she can just rest on her return to be ready for her class on Thursday night. She is such a blessing from God for me, and I want her to know just how much I appreciate her! She was very concerned about my pulling the engine on that old truck, but it was all done safely and completed yesterday. The young man showed up early and bought it to complete his truck, so all went well. Today I will rest some as I did overdo it yesterday, doing far more than the engine pull and load. Well, there I go again rambling like the old man I have become. Let’s get to Today’s Daily Bible Challenge in 1st Chronicles 4.   I must admit that every detail I searched this morning led me to dead ends; it is not the most interesting of chapters. So let's look at it this way: The Jewish people found great i...

1st Chronicles 3 The Family of King David

Image
Good Tuesday morning, I hope all is going well in your neck of the woods. All is well here on The Little Hundred Acre Wood! The coffee is hot and strong, so let’s get to Today’s Daily Bible Challenge! We are in 1st Chronicles 3 as we read of all of King David’s sons daughter and descendants.   Today’s chapter is very short and not much meat, unless of course you dig in a little deeper. In verse 17, you will hear of someone referred to as Jeconiah, “the prisoner.” If you follow this link https://www.gotquestions.org/curse-of-Jeconiah.html , you will find some meat and potatoes to feast on! This is also a short read, but fascinating if you like to understand just how much God has all this laid out for the future! I love knowing my Father has a plan and knows every hair left on my head! But it is important to note that just because He knows what you will decide does not mean He made you decide it, that just wouldn’t be love, would it! Please remember we are here for you, we wel...

1st Chronicles 2

Image
Good morning! My darling bride has gone to Houston for a few days to grand-dog sit, so I am keeping busy to pass the time quickly. Today I have a couple of minor jobs, then back here to The Little Hundred Wood to remove the engine from my parts truck. I accidentally sold the engine off FB Marketplace this weekend. Just as well I know little of how the engine was rebuilt, and I need some clutch parts out of the transmission anyway. Now, if my tractor can run long enough to lift out the engine, this will be an easy job! What does this have to do with The Daily Bible Challenge? Pretty much nothin I guess! But with my bride out of town, I need to talk with someone, don’t I?   God is the ultimate Master Project Manager, as we will see His groundwork and milestones being laid out in the genealogy of Today’s Bible Challenge in 1st Chronicles 2. No, He didn’t create people to fail; He just had a plan B and C for when people chose not to do their part! Click the link below to ...

1st Chronicles 1

Image
Good Sunday morning. If this is the day you celebrate your Sabbath, happy Sabbath to you. I hope your Valentine's Day was romantic and joyful! We had a great stormy day for our Sabbath yesterday, and we sure needed all the rain we got, but we are still way behind on rain at this point. The Little Hundred Acre Wood will spring to life now that it is so warm and less dry!   Speaking of dry, we are in 1st Chronicles 1 for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge. When we get to this point of our reading, I usually try to write a little more about Jesus and the New Life He has given me, well… because this is one of the most challenging parts of the Bible to continue the Challenge in! It is a dry series of genealogies (mostly of Priestly people). There are about five men you will recognize in all these names, standing out as central characters for the main story God is presenting in the New and Old Testaments.   I do have one little bit of trivia for you here, and that is, why do you t...

2nd Kings 25 Judah Falls

Image
Judah falls to the king of Babylon. Just how far down did the sins of Israel drag her? That is what we will listen to in Today’s Daily Bible Challenge as we dive into the final chapter of the books of 1st and 2nd Kings. Remember, I do not claim to be a Biblical scholar, though I have read it cover to cover many times. But many points in this chapter leave me asking more questions, with little reference material to dig into; many of those questions will remain unanswered. I can live with that, because I understand and even cherish my mere mortal perspective. Cherish you ask? Yes, I understand how big God has to be to keep all this together, and I am happy to have no part of that! So sometimes if it is not a central salvation issue, I just let it go and trust in God with all His Wisdom!   The deceiver wants us to believe we can control everything, and we are a central character in this play, but God has humbled me enough to know I am at best a supporting character with few li...

2nd Kings 24

Image
Good morning, I finally finished up a never-ending job yesterday. It has always puzzled me how, when a job goes wrong, it seems to be snakebit, and it is five times harder to get it finished correctly. Everyone who touches it messes up all along the way! But it sure feels good to have this one wrapped up before the weekend! As my Pastor said on the phone last night, there is a lot of spiritual warfare going on these days. We were having some property rights issues with a builder on a lot near us yesterday, so I was on my phone trying to resolve the problem while a paint brush was in my other hand… I felt attacked, but kept praying little prayers in between all the interruptions. God finally used it all for good by the end of the evening, but it was sure not looking good in the middle of all of it.   How do you steer your life through the maze of interruptions and turmoil that arises? Of course, the best way is to plan well and keep up with the little stuff so it doesn’t eve...

2nd Kings 23

Image
Good Thursday morning from the little corner office overlooking The Little Hundred Acre Wood! I just love the account of King Josiah in the last few chapters of 2nd Kings, but alas, today we are in chapter 23 and are reading/listening to the account of Josiah’s death. His life’s story/historical account is one that I didn’t want to hear end! He epitomizes what it looks like to be on fire for the Lord. In fact, I would venture to say that this is what it looks like to allow God to be the Lord of your life! He found God’s word and started leading all his people to follow Him, instead of all the evil ways they had been following! Please don’t overlook the references to child sacrifice by fire again mentioned in today’s chapter. These were really evil people, as we are if we don’t cling to God’s moral compass; He left us the instruction book for a life worth living! Click the link below to hear it for yourself. After all, I am just some stranger on the internet! Talk with you soon...

2nd Kings 22

Image
Good Wednesday morning! I am planning on finally getting back to work today after an illness. It turns out I didn’t have the Flu but a severe reaction to the antibiotics they prescribed for the original illness two weeks ago. That last week, my everything hurt, even with migrain like head aches for days! One more antibiotic crossed off my list! It was a kill-or-cure method, I guess. Well, that is all I have to say about that! Let’s get to why we are here!   We are in chapter 22 of 2nd Kings for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge! We read about a King who took office at age eight. How would you have been as a king at eight years old? I would not have done as well as this fine young man, Josiah! He had a soft heart and much wisdom to listen to the book of the laws that was uncovered as he was having the Temple rebuilt. In fact, after learning just how far they had strayed, he tore his clothes in mourning! I can only hope for such a blessing as he received before the end times, as I...

2nd Kings 21

Image
Good morning from The Little Hundred Acre Wood, the hounds have had their run, and the tigers have all been fed! I overslept by quite a bit, so this will be a little short. I rarely oversleep even without an alarm, but I have been so sick, and my body finally got into a real DEEP REM sleep!  I am so thankful for that full night's sleep! Well enough about me, let's talk about God's word and his people!     Where to start with such a turn of events for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge in 2nd Kings 21? Hezekiah was so good until his pride got the best of him at the end! Now we get a king who is so evil that he, in one generation, undid all the good that Hezekiah had done in his lifetime! I am sure God has a special place for this kind of evil, especially from a leader! Leaders are held in a special honor or persecution depending on their actions! Click the link below to listen for yourself and find out the name of this evil king, who filled the area wi...

2nd Kings 20

Image
Good Monday morning! What a great halftime show that was from TPUSA last night! I didn’t catch that Kid Rock did two performances; I didn’t recognize him in the second! Overall, it was a great halftime performance! There were a couple of production issues, but no wardrobe malfunctions LOL! The commercials were not up to the usual standards. Madeline and I really don’t keep up with football anymore, but we always watch for the commercials. This year, we never even turned on the game and watched the commercials on YouTube afterward. I wonder what the NFL is thinking with all this? I guess we are more of a baseball house!   Well, I am rambling again. Let’s get to 2nd Kings chapter 20 for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge. Where we see King Hezekiah get granted fifteen more years to live by God, talk about the power of prayer! But afterwards, he goes off the deep end and shows off his crib/digs and treasures to total strangers. Kind of reminds me of some old Super Bowl commercials! ...

2nd Kings 19

Image
Good Sunday morning, I am still sick and will return to bed as soon as this is posted. Yes, the Daily Bible Challenge goes on 365 days a year, regardless of anything in our circumstances. Yes, sometimes it is shortened, but the Bible part (what matters) is always at least a chapter!  Today, we are in 2nd Kings 19, and to me, it is a great example of what accepting God’s Lordship over your life looks like! Hezekiah was not only talking about God but was doing His will! It is often heard in “modern” Christianity that all things are possible with God. Well, that is taken out of context. If it is within God’s will, then yes, all things are possible! But if you are using that out-of-context verse to suggest you will become wealthy or powerful, but you plan on using that power and wealth selfishly, then don’t count on ever seeing any of it! But if you do see it come about, it is probably brought on by the temptor not God.  So Lordship first will bring about...

2nd Kings 18 Why do we do The Daiy Bible Challenge?

Image
Good morning, I will not write much this morning, due to a fever and body aches. But I did want to take a moment to talk about why we read the Bible here daily. The Daily Bible Challenge is more than a name; it is a mission to inspire you to stop listening to gossip about God and start listening to God about God! We strongly believe God’s word will change your life from the inside out. It may take ten years or ten seconds for some, but God’s word always has a yield at harvest time!   So, if you want to stop relying on second-hand knowledge about God and want to get it daily in easy dosages (one and sometimes two chapters at a time), then this is the place for you! Oh, I forgot one thing, if you are new here, we listen to the Bible from an audiobook of the NASB 95. This version is provided by Blue Letter Bible ( BLB.ORG ). With that link, you can read along in the text if you prefer.   This morning’s chapter, we listened to Judah finally getting a proper God-fearing Ki...

2nd Kings 17 So many false gods!

Image
Where do I start with a chapter like this? It is so full of evil, but you need to dig a little deeper to understand just how far they had fallen and how deep the evil was! It is easy to overlook some of this, I mean, passing your children through fire, sounds a little diferent than burning your babies to death as a sacrifice to false gods! Oh, and then to a lesser evil, when they talk about under green trees, that is sex out of marriage between temple prostitutes, part of Asherim worship. There are several other false gods they were following too! There is no depth of evil these people would not go to, running from their own true God! Time and time again, we see that we need a moral God like Jesus, Yahweh, and the Holy Spirit, or there is no telling how low we will go, running toward evil in our sin nature.   I know this is not too uplifting for a Friday morning, but there is hope! I know of many who had wallowed in the depths of depravity, and God has pulled them out of tha...

2nd Kings 16

Image
Good Thursday to all of you near and far! We are in chapter 16 of 2nd Kings for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge. It is a tough read. I do have a few major takeaways from the books of Kings: 1st, if the people had not provoked God by asking for a King, when God was already their King, most of this would not be happening. In fact, Israel would probably not even have split into two regions! None of these kings worked for the same reason socialism never works, you see, we are all fallen men and women. Absolute power corrupts absolutely! Knowing what you know about yourself, would you trust you to lead a nation, then how can we trust anyone else to lead? We need God as our leader; He is incorruptible!   Now, as for this King Ahaz, don’t miss that he was guilty of child sacrifice. See 2Kings 16:3, God has a special place for people who harm children! But He has a worse place for societies that practice child sacrifice!   Click the link below to listen for yourself! We welcome y...

2nd Kings 15

Image
Good Wednesday morning! All is well here on The Little Hundred Acre Wood. I have several small jobs this week and feel so very blessed to have them! I hope to get back to our work here on the homestead on Friday. We are having a false spring this week, so we need to get it all done while the going is good! We have a birthday party for a close friend, mid-day today in Glen Rose. So I need to get this job wrapped up quickly this morning. Well, I am rambling again, aren’t I!   Let’s get to Today’s Daily Bible Challenge in 2nd Kings 15. This chapter is so fast-paced that it is hard to keep up! There are several kings of Judah and Israel listed out in these words. Some reign as long as 52 years, while others only 30 days! We think today’s politics are volatile. Just try to keep up with this list of kings and see if you can build a mental timeline for all of this! Click the link below to listen for yourself!   Talk with you soon! https://www.blueletterbible.org/audio_video/po...

2nd Kings 14

Image
Good Tuesday morning, my darling bride and I got a lot done yesterday on the cleanup of the parking area, only to drive to the dump with a trailer load of debris, to find out it was closed on Mondays! But we enjoyed our time together nonetheless and returned home for a few more small chores. Today is a little less hectic, but I feel blessed to have some customer work on the schedule.   Are you new here? Well, the coffee is hot, so let’s get to The Daily Bible Challenge, where we read the whole Bible cover to cover, in context. We do not study deeply, although we try to challenge you to do that on your own. I try to tell you just enough to pique your interest to read/listen for yourself. Clicking the link below will start a pop-up audiobook of the Bible in modern American English, translated from the original Greek and Hebrew texts. You can also go to BLB.ORG and look up the text to read along, choose the NASB 95 version to match the audiobook.   Today, we ...

2nd Kings 13

Image
Good Monday morning! I have a ton of office work this morning, then I will be starting the big cleanup of our driveway/parking area. This has been a literal construction zone for years now, and it is time to return it to the large parking area it used to be. We can normally accommodate five to six cars, but lately it has been limited to three by all the construction materials and debris. We have warm weather for the next few days, so I'd better take full advantage and knock this out! Well, I am rambling on and on again about nothing. Let's get to why we are here! We are in 2nd Kings 13 for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge. For me, this was a confusing, jumbled-up account of two kings with a short lifespan, a common occurrence in those days. Probably the most important event in this chapter is the death of Elisha and the miracle after his death. No, I am not telling you what that was; you need to click the link below and read/listen for yourself! Talk with you soon! https:...

2nd Kings 12

Image
In modern-day times, we have a strange political process; it seems the more you can divide the people, the more likely you get the chance to be in charge. In Today’s Daily Bible Challenge, we read/listen to an account of an even more tumultuous time than today. A time when you are simply conspired against and then murdered so you can appoint someone else king. Joash seems to have got most things right in all his days as king, but he did leave those high places standing, I guess, out of fear of the people. But you see, the high places were places of worship and sacrifice of human children to false Gods, such as Molech, Ashera, Baal, and others. Would his life have been spared if he also removed the high places? I guess we will never know.   You see, if you just read through the Bible quickly, you will miss such details. I challenge you to dig a little deeper, one chapter at a time, which leaves you plenty of time to go to gotquestions.org or the tools tab on BLB.ORG to dig ...
