Holy Saturday John14-17 Jesus' words before being arrested.

Image
Good morning, day or evening!  I bid you a Holy Saturday of rest and reflection. In our account of Holy Week, Jesus would now be dead in a tomb, and the disciples were huddled together, scared. Hiding from a possible death sentence if caught. But today, let's focus on what they heard from Jesus the night before his arrest. His words are so comforting to know as we wander through this lifetime of unknowns!   In these things, we can be sure, as they are straight from Jesus’ mouth and recorded for our ears and hearts to hear! He is preparing a place for us after death, a dwelling place and a map to get there. But this map is more of a map to your heart and soul than a map of roads. Getting to this destination is all about the condition of your heart and a new life in Christ that we often speak about here at The Daily Bible Challenge. If you are new here, please click the link below and listen to chapters 14-17 of John. So you too can hear the words of our Lord and S...

John 18-19 Good Friday

Image
There is so much to write about this morning that it is hard for me to know where to begin! This is “Good” Friday, that is such a confusing name in modern English! But it is not a misnomer, it is from the Old English word “good”, meaning Holy, Pious, or Sacred, or Godly if you will, remember the old phrase "The Goode Book" to describe the Bible? So this is a sacred day, if you are new to all this, it would only be natural to ask what is good about the day we observe, as when our God Jesus was killed on the cross! So thinking of it as a Holy or Sacred day makes more sense!   But others consider it Good Friday because Jesus meant this death to bring “The Good News” to all who believe He was the Son of God and yet also God Himself, and the Spirit. Yes, this day is so important, without it there can be no resurrection, no New Life in Christ! It is a somber day, one of mourning, a quiet day when many fast from meat or other things. Many do not work and keep a quiet house on this...

John 13:34-35 A new commandment, Maundy Thursday!

Image
We are starting a new tradition this morning here at The Daily Bible Challenge. On Maundy Thursday each year, we will switch to the accounts of the Easter/Holy Week, like we shift gears at Christmas for the birth accounts. We will resume 2nd Chronicles on Monday.   We are headed back to the New Testament for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge in John 13. This is where we get the name for this day in Holy Week. This day is named Maundy Thursday; Maundy is from the Latin root word madatum, or in English, mandate, which means commandment. So if you have been around many churches for years, this is not a commandment to eat pancakes, LOL. I don’t know where that tradition came from, but many churches have celebrated this day with a pancake breakfast at the church for many, many years!   But there is a new commandment from Jesus in this chapter in verses 13:34-35. At our church, we live by this commandment! We love abundantly and err on the side of loving too much to be safe. Ther...

2nd Chronicles 23 Athaliah put to death and a new king is seated

Image
Good Wednesday to each of you. Holy week is here. I hope you will use this week to grow closer to our Lord Jesus, the one who is the Christ! This morning’s Daily Bible Challenge is chapter 23 of 2nd Chronicles. There will be an evil queen put to death, and a new young king will be put on the throne! No, really, I mean very young, Joash was 7 when he became king! What is significant about all this is that Joash is in the lineage of King David; this sets up for the royal lineage of Jesus to continue and confirms the promise God made to David so long ago. But like many kings before him, Joash will be corrupted. But for now, he will do well for several years as a child being led by the High Priest.   It is important to note during this Holy Week that Joash and two other kings were not mentioned in Matthew’s lineage of Jesus. Look it up in Matthew 1:1 at BLB.ORG . Most likely because of their evil deeds and false gods. They just couldn’t give up those high places and wicked pract...

2nd Chronicles 22 An Evil Queen for Jerusalem

Image
That was sure a long day yesterday. I slept late this morning after wrestling with sleep for a couple of hours, while I finally wound down. I am a morning person, so work days that last well into the evening can really mess with my rhythm. Which is probably why I had to reread this chapter several times, even though it is only a two-minute read. I finally asked Grok to summarize it, and that allowed me to wrap my sleepy head around what was going on. I look forward to tomorrow's chapter to hear what happens to Athaliah.   Did you know there was once a queen ruling over Jerusalem? She was an evil, wicked queen named Athaliah, and she put many of the possible heirs from King David’s lineage to death so she could seize power! She reigned for six years while the last possible heir (Joash) was hidden from her. 2nd Chronicles 21 Jehoram dies a well deserved grusome death!

Image
Good Monday to you, I hope your day goes well. Let’s get to this while the coffee is hot. We can give it a good start with The Daily Bible Challenge in 2nd Chronicles 21. We will read/listen to what happens when a son is given leadership just because he is the firstborn, not because of character or merit, again, without seeking God’s will first!   It amazes me how some of these kings just murdered their own family and still remained king after such crimes! Well, God had special plans for Jehoram with all his evil. Well, I will put it this way: it is just too gruesome to talk about these details before coffee and breakfast! In fact, I can’t recall a more gruesome end to anyone smote by God in the whole Bible! Click the link below to read/listen to it yourself.   As always, many thanks to BLB.ORG for providing this audiobook for all of us! Please consider supporting them financially, as we do! This is a free ministry to all users of their platform, purely to spread the g...

2nd Chronicles 20 He was this close!

Image
It is the Lord’s day. What are you going to do with it? We will go to gather with our church family, and there will be much praise and worship, and of course, much fellowship! This is Palm Sunday, with Easter next weekend, we are overjoyed to celebrate Jesus' first choosing to die to pay for our sins, and then rising from the dead so we can too! There is life after death, but there is also a great life here as servants of Christ. Sharing this new life in Christ with others is what I live for; it is my calling to share this with you and to share The Daily Bible Challenge with you so that you can learn more about God and grow in a Saving Relationship with God!   My little cat does not seem to want me to share this with you this morning, she is in my lap under my keyboard, reaching up and licking and gently biting my fingers as I type…LOL! She is full-grown and only about six pounds and thinks my lap is her bed. Well, she has managed to distract me enough to get a mention here,...
