1st Kings 11 Solomon's Fall

Good morning, it’s Friday in case you have lost your way this week! We had some good news at my doctor's appointment yesterday, and hope for better results soon with another adjustment of my meds. The Casa paint project had to pause yesterday due to high winds all day. We hope our friend/contractor can pick back up on this project on Monday.

Speaking of losing your way, even with all the wisdom in the world, Solomon still fell due to the root of most falls, his own pride! We read again of his polygamy here, how else could you explain such things as 700 wives and 300 concubines other than a huge ego/pride problem! If you find yourself wanting to possess everything you think is pretty, sexy, sparkly, maybe it's time to face the situation that you have a pride problem! That would have eventually been my downfall, too, but God set me straight to see my huge pride problem, but not before some stumbling along the way!

Remember way back in the beginning of the Bible when God is described as a jealous God? He is jealous of your heart. He wants to be first in your heart and every area of your life. But we put ourselves on the throne of our hearts, replacing God’s place on that throne! After all, He sent His son Jesus to die for us so that our sins could be forgiven, so that He could take His rightful place on the throne of our hearts! So that we could spend eternity with Him. If someone pays that high a price for something, they probably have a right to want all of it! But in turn, if someone pays that high a price for something, it must be very valuable to them. So do you realize that means the Creator of the universe thinks you are very special and important as His son or daughter?

I like to describe our path as growing in the fruit of the Spirit, and one of those fruits is self-control! So people (but especially men), if you can’t control something as simple as the zipper on your pants, you should probably expect to fall like Solomon, and to some extent, as David did too! We all fall to some extent, but choosing a path of infidelity usually takes some premeditated planning, so that is pride, not merely a slip-up, but a choice!

In some ways, I pity Solomon, as such wealth and power must put such huge temptations before you every moment of every day. I tasted wealth in my earlier years, and its aroma can be intoxicating and highly addictive! But God humbled me and led me back to His plan for my life! And for that I am so thankful! Like Solomon, the more I had, the more I wanted, and that only left me devoid of purpose and true meaning in life!
