Judges 19 Failure of God's People to Follow God's Law Leads to Unthinkable Action and War!

It is Sunday, and I hope many of you are already up and getting ready for church! I love going to church and seeing all my brothers and sisters in Christ. It is hard to explain, considering how introverted I was before Christ got a hold of my heart! I now have love for others that I never had on my own…I was following myself as the god of my heart!

We read about such people in Today’s Daily Bible Challenge in Judges 19. I cannot sugarcoat this; this is one of the worst chapters of the whole Bible! Nothing is redeeming in this chapter, and I dislike it completely. I almost wrote hate here... because it makes me burn with an anger that I haven’t felt in many years! This is definitely one of the chapters that is why this blog is called The Daily Bible “CHALLENGE”. If you are new to all this Bible stuff, this is probably not the place to start your journey with God. This chapter will leave you confused and angry if you are like me! So, if new to this, maybe start with the first chapter of the book of John in the New Testament!

For the rest of you who are more seasoned in your faith, know that I would love to just skip over this chapter and pretend there was a misprint in my Bible, leaving out this chapter entirely! But this is God’s word, and every sentence has meaning and purpose!

I just spent a lot of time reading and listening to a podcast from GotQuestions.org to try to glean something to write about! As I try to suppress my anger to write to you in a meaningful way. Let’s find something to take away from this chapter.

When we stray from God and follow our own hearts, we will end up like the crazed men outside the door of this house with guests! I believe this is because we will be led astray by satan and his minions. Into such depravity as this chapter describes!

I think sometimes it is the honorable thing to die trying to defend people from such atrocities as are depicted here in Judges 19! Some know who they are deep inside and are brave in such times, and others are cowards. I am pretty sure I would prefer dying in the fight than living with giving my wife over like this so called man did! The next few days of chapters will depict further repercussions from these strange behaviors in nineteen.

All this was because people were following their prideful ways and not running after God any longer! Ask yourself why a Levite even has a concubine, and why did the Bejamites follow the path of Sodom and Gomorrah? In Genesis 19, we see a similar account of such a crime. God destroyed Sodom and Gomorrah with fire for this crime! But in this account, the men don’t fight either; they give over their daughters to these despicable men, in my eyes making them despicable themselves!

So what is the takeaway? It would seem to me that it is a harsh account to teach us just how depraved we will become if we don’t turn to God and repent from our wicked ways! We need Jesus to break the chains of this earth that bind us to sinning against people and, therefore, God! All the while, we are chaining ourselves more and more by giving in to the sins that give license to satan’s evil ways.

If you are new and you read all this, understand you accidentally stepped into the deep end, before the needed swimming lessons of the New Testament. Please don’t give up on The Daily Bible Challenge. We do not shy away from the tough parts, but it would take days to get you to the place where you can handle all the bad things in this chapter… please go read John 1 instead of clicking the link below for Judges 19, https://www.blueletterbible.org/audio_video/popPlayer.cfm?type=nasb_n&b=43&c=1 I have been reading the Bible for years and even graduated from Seminary, and I still struggle and burn with anger from this chapter!

 Talk with you soon!
