Deuteronomy 34 Moses Dies Before Entering the Promised Land
Good Monday morning, I hope you have a great week planned! My cat is so happy we are back home; she was very excited to jump on my lap as my keyboard pillow this morning. Yes, I type in a crazy position to write The Daily Bible Challenge each morning with a small cat in my lap, asleep under the keyboard, and a dog asleep on the floor on each side of my chair. I am sure it is quite a sight, but this is our alone time with God, so no one sees but Him. Do you make TDBC part of your alone time with God? I pray while still in bed, then make the coffee and feed the hounds and cats, then head to this little home office to write these letters to all of you. I don’t do this because I am lonely; I am a Bivocational Pastor and work at a small church campus with other Pastors and staff. I stay quite busy with behind-the-scenes ministry. I do this because I want to challenge as many people as possible to read the word of God!
There are Bibles in almost every home in the USA, probably more Bibles than guns in most LOL! But like those guns, most Bibles just collect dust in a drawer somewhere. So if I can get you to click a little link and listen to the whole Bible word for word, one chapter at a time, while on your commute, I hope to stop a trend in this generation. That trend is to have people stop listening to gossip about God and start listening to God about God! If you are a preacher reading this, please feel free to steal that one! The other thing I am passionate about is that we read the Bible in proper context, such as the Old Testament is primarily written to people who are Jewish by heritage/lineage. It does pertain to us, but not every word is instruction to us Gentiles, as we are in the New Covenant that Jesus brought us into with Him. He did not come to abolish the law, but He also did not come to chain us down to Levitical laws, yet we are still bound to the ten commandments. But even if we break those commands, Jesus provided us a way to salvation from our sins through His death on the cross. He is the ultimate sacrifice for all sin if we sinners repent with a contrite heart!
Here is one reference from a compilation of articles by Google AI, to understand more about a repentant heart: To repent with a contrite heart means to express a deep, sincere sorrow for your sin, a humbling of your natural pride, and a genuine desire to turn away from sin and toward God. It involves recognizing the grievousness of your transgressions, accepting blame without shifting it, and throwing yourself on God's mercy with a humble and obedient spirit. This kind of repentance is a fundamental aspect of true remorse and a willingness to align your will with God's.
So I challenge you now to click the link below and listen to Deuteronomy 34 as we read/listen about Moses’ rule coming to an end as Joshua takes over. This chapter is less than a 2-minute read. We welcome your comments or questions via PM/DM on any platform you find this post!
PS, our salvation doesn’t always lead to avoiding earthly consequences for our sins. Moses is dealing with an earthly consequence for disobeying God. He did not get to cross over with God’s people into the Promised Land due to his rebellion along the way! He died and was buried outside of the promised land, but still got to go to heaven! Unfortunately, for them, Church Leaders are held to a higher standard by God as we read about today!
