Numbers 15 Do You Have a Blue Tassel in Your Life?

Good Monday morning out there in social media land! Sometimes I struggle to make God and the Bible a part of every moment of every day. Slipping into a sin as it is talked about in chapter 15 of Numbers for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge. There are two classes of sin: one is unintentional, literally not knowing or by complete accident, and the other is out of premeditated defiance. Because we live after Christ’s birth and death on the cross, both may be forgiven, because Jesus paid the price for our forgiveness. But these two sins are seen differently by God. Before Christ, the defiance sin was punishable by death. But now we can seek Christ’s forgiveness and repent of either (repent means to agree with God and turn away from sin) and be forgiven completely. But be careful, God will not be mocked, don’t say: Well, I can do this and then just ask for forgiveness afterward, that is mocking Him!

Don’t get me wrong, sin is sin, by class of sin I am not saying there is a class of punishment, all sin leads to death, death is the wage paid for unforgiven sin. Jesus paid that wage for our sin, but only if we confess and ask for His forgiveness, or in other words, repent! Jesus did not tell the adulterous woman to go and keep sinning, but to “go and sin no more” (repent), {John 8:11}. He did not die for us to have license to keep sinning! I sin and so do you, but an act of complete premeditated sin is a dangerous lifestyle!

So God told the people to sew a tassel with a blue cord into their garments to remind them not to sin. Do you have something in your life you use to remind you not to sin? I have a small, very sharp cross of nails on a necklace I wear daily, and when I get tempted, I reach up and squeeze that cross so its point pokes my thumb. It serves to remind me of what it must have felt like for Jesus as they drove the nails into his hands and feet to hang Him on the cross! Somehow, after thinking of that, it is so easy to resist the sin tempting me! Maybe today we all need to go out and buy some blue tassels and hang them from our rearview mirrors and wherever else we find ourselves sinning regularly! Click the link below and listen to this chapter for yourself, and join us again tomorrow morning as we read the whole Bible one chapter at a time!

  Talk with you soon!
