Exodus 32 Golden Calves and Shattered Stone Tablets
Good Wednesday morning!
As I prayed and listened to chapter 32 of Exodus for Today’s Daily Bible Challenge, I await the next round of thunderstorms forecast to arrive any minute now. We are way ahead of our yearly rainfall totals, and I know there are many thankful ranchers and farmers in Texas this year! It is also good for The Little Hundred Acre Wood, but much more will soon cause delays in my shifting back to the house remodeling work. Eeyore, my antique truck is now truly safe to drive (even fun!), so I can shift that truck work to a lower priority, doing one or two minor projects a week, and shift my focus on our home again for my darling bride! She has been so patient with these delays.
Lately, I have been forced into pondering some deep areas of concern in my relationship with God. Most of this was prompted by reflections on my past brought about by reviewing my work in the Re/Generation program at StoneWater Church. I am co-leading a group and going back through the curriculum with the men we are leading. God, through the Holy Spirit, has led me to the question: What are the golden calf/false gods in my life (lower “g” gods in my life, or idols)? I have been shown twice now and expect a third mention soon, that it is busyness! I seem to always stay very busy, and maybe that is to a fault! So, as a Pastor, my life is to be becoming about serving God and His people! But am I running from that like I ran from my calling originally? Escaping the actions needed by staying too busy to see the obvious right in front of me? As our lead Pastor said in the sermon on Sunday, it is hard to hear the Holy Spirit when we are in a hurry!
As you are reading/listening to chapter 32 of Exodus, I ask you to ponder what are your false gods in your life? Who are you asking to help you make those false gods (like Aarin in chapter 32), and why are they helping you stray farther away from God and His purpose for your life? I will continue to ask myself the same things, and maybe we can grow in our relationship with God together in the process! Click the link below to listen to the Bible!
We hope to talk with you soon!
