Exodus 23 How do we treat the people we don't like?
Good Monday morning! I find myself like a giddy school kid waiting for my friends to get out to the playground this morning, as I await the return of my darling bride. She has been gone almost seven days, and that is just too long for this incurable romantic old guy! We have been dating since she was seventeen, and I still can’t wait to make her coffee each morning. Madeline and I have a pact that we hope God will bless, that is to die in our sleep on the same night sometime way off in the future. I don’t think either one of us would do well alone, although she may have a better chance at making it work than I would! To keep busy while I wait this morning, I will be doing some metal fab work for my antique truck.
My goal each day is to inspire you to read your whole Bible or at least this one chapter, Exodus 23. It is full of laws and rules, but it is more of an instruction book on how to live well in this life. The lessons on how we treat people we don’t like are so clear in this chapter. There is little that would frustrate us culturally in today's chapter, but there are a few items that are sure to frustrate our sensibilities. These are not errors but just cultural differences from ~2500 years ago. But then some of them make so much sense that if we followed them, today's society would run so much smoother.
