Revelations four and five. 24 elders and seven spirits?
Good Sunday morning to each of you and Happy Sabbath to the American Church and all those celebrating Sunday. I am ready for worship and rest, although I tend to have church work most of Sunday. But I am passionate about it so it rarely wears me down but builds me up! I would love to say the same about studying the book of Revelation but it is tedious and difficult for my mere human brain to comprehend so much! We are in Revelation 4 and 5 this morning, and combined they are a less than 4 and a half minutes read/listen.
This is one of those days that I spent more time on the gotquestions.org site than in the Bible. Revelation’s imagery has a way of doing that to us, who are curious and want to understand more. But thankfully we have so many resources today to dig further, but even then this is one of the areas that I rely heavily on faith in God. Not only will it be ok if I don’t fully understand everything now, but God will still be God in heaven and I will still not be! So what that means is even then He does not owe me anything and my prideful desire to know and understand everything will not necessarily be answered and that's OK!
Now please understand that is not a cop out, it is a statement of faith that a god small enough for me to fully understand is not a God big enough for me to worship! Is it ok with you if God is big enough to make matter from nothing, that He can also have a book in the Bible that has imagery that is other worldly? So much so that we cannot even imagine it all, even when described so well as John does here in Revelation? So the big takeaway for me is the Holy Spirit of God represented as one spirit with seven parts. One lampstand with a bowl on top with seven lamps of flame below. Seven is represented in the Bible as perfect or heavenly, so this is probably a statement of the perfection of the Holy Spirit’s nature or existence. I am so thankful for resources like Got Questions! Now ask yourself who the 24 elders were/are? Each chapter of Revelation can be a stepping stone into hours of digging and opinions. But maybe we are not meant to understand it all in great detail? What are your thoughts on Revelation? Do you want to know more about Jesus as the Messiah and your personal Lord and Savior? If so, please send us your questions via direct messages and we will get back to you shortly.
