Revelation 14 When the reading gets tough!
My job here at The Daily Bible Challenge is to inspire you to read/listen to the Bible because statistically, so very few have read the whole Bible and even fewer try to live out what it says! We read one and sometimes two chapters a day, trying to keep the read times to five minutes or less because I know everyone is so busy trying to get ready for work and school or whatever it is you do! But in chapter fourteen of Revelation it is hard to be that uplifting old guy writing to you from the little office looking over The Little Hundred Acre Wood. Chapters like these make it difficult to do my Job, but are why this is a “Challenge” and will not always be fun, like that early workout some of you are preparing for before heading to the office! When it is done, there is a reward, but before and during it's not so much fun!
We hear of the 144,000 again in this chapter and they are mentioned as the “first fruits” as they are here before the angels with the sickles have not started their work (some interpret this as the rapture). It is supported by tradition that first fruits are ten percent of the overall number. Do you think that means there will only be 1,440,000 total going to heaven out of the Billions on earth? I guess that is possible because the previous saved souls are still at rest at this point. Well, I am glad that my wondering mind’s ponderings are not to be defended as truths. It is possible to ponder the book of Revelation your whole life and still get into arguments with scholars about every chapter. This is one of those books where we need to trust God and know we may never have complete understanding of every page!
Did you know there are seven blessings from God in the book of Revelation, yes, I am searching for good uplifting things to keep your spirits up on this Tuesday morning! The first was in Rev 1:3 and the second is in 14:13, but even in that it is not the most uplifting to help you through the gauntlet of your day!
If you are new to all this, maybe it would be a good idea to also read the first chapter of John this morning as it will be more clear and provide more hope for your seeking soul! But we read/listen in order each day from cover to cover in this challenge, but I try to throw a bone of hope when the text is tedious or sad. So we will be back in the Old Testament and be discussing Genesis and God creating the universe soon. Now there is great hope in that!
Talk with you soon!
