Genesis 8 After the Flood Hurricane Harvey
Good Wednesday morning to each of you. For today's Daily Bible Challenge, we are in chapter 8 of Genesis. I hope your morning is going well and you have great plans for this day, after some prayer time and some Bible time, of course! Today, we listen to how the flood waters receded in Noah’s day. It reminds me of a strange time in our lives, some eight years ago now. Our flood was Hurricane Harvey, and we were stuck there waiting for the water to recede as we were tending to some dear friend’s house while they were on mission in China at the orphanage that Beth & Steven Curtis Chapman facilitated in China. It was so sad to see this home flooded, and we had quite a bit of loss ourselves as we had moved in and had all our belongings there. We were blessed that it was a two-story house, so we could move the small stuff upstairs. But many family heirlooms were lost by us and our friends. There was great fear as you didn’t know if the flood waters would keep rising. We had a chainsaw to cut the roof in the attic if the waters rose that high, but what a blessing that it only damaged the ground floor. We could see military helicopters rescuing people a block or two behind us. The once crystal clear pool in the backyard was now full of muddy water and even fish from the creek a few blocks away.
I can only imagine the fear of Noah’s family as they were afloat on the flood waters for so many days and long, dark nights with the wind howling outside the boat. There is a family that had to really depend on faith to get them through this storm of life. We had to depend on God and His people during those times in Houston, too! Our church sent huge teams of volunteer clean-up crews to help us tear out sheetrock and get the flooded possessions (now trash) into a dumpster out by the curb.
I haven’t thought much about that time lately, but Genesis eight sure brought it all back fresh this morning. Do you have such memories in your life where you had to depend upon God because there was nowhere else to turn? It can be life-altering, for sme it turns out badly, and for others they grow in their faith, such was the case for Madeline and me! Click the link below and try to imagine yourself in that ark with this great family of faith and all those animals. How would you do for so many days? I am a take-charge kind of guy, so I would have probably been going stir-crazy!
Talk with you soon!
